Breakbone's Bodyslam Technique
Extreme Release Technique - aka Bodyslam Technique
Developed by Atalee Judy of Breakbone DanceCo.

An Honest Use of Gravity

Like the bodies of other animals, a human body has incredible intelligence of its own. This natural intelligence is the result of millions of years of evolution - the natural selection and the survival of the fittest. This intelligence is not verbal but instinctive and intuitive. In every single step there is accumulated information that can not be fully explained in detail even with volumes of books - the sense of balance in the brain, the workings of nerves, the movement of countless muscles, the cardio-vascular functioning for proper supply of oxygen and nutrients, etc. The list is endless. All of these are done without a single thought, totally autonomous and spontaneous.

The Extreme Release Technique, or Bodyslam Technique, developed by Atalee Judy of Breakbone DanceCo. requires an honest use of gravity. It is an instinctual form of movement - much like the Martial Arts and Self Defense skills that incorporate survival instincts with the use of bodily force to abate an attacker by using gravity, body positioning & weight placement. This extreme movement style has borrowed techniques from Martial Art forms such as: Jujitsu, Tae Kwan Do, Karate & Street Fighting. Other techniques borrowed to form the Bodyslam Technique are: Stage Combat, Slamdancing/Moshing, Improvisation, Sword Play, Butoh, Dance Movement Theory, Somatic Theory, Kinesiology, Ballet & Modern Dance Techniques.

Breakbone DanceCo. is predominantly a dance company, but while most dance forms & companies focus on trying to fight against gravity - as if gravity doesn't exit, Breakbone's Bodyslam Technique embraces this energy force and uses it in their style of movement. This intuitive technique develops physiques that have remarkably strong upper body strength, and uses low squats - requiring solid Hamstring & Quad muscle reflexes. The ability to land safely from a fall requires sharp sensory skills - much like a cat twisting it's body to land on its feet after a fall. The torso & back musculature areas need to be pliable for extensions while the abdominal muscles need to be toned for contractions. The Bodyslam Technique is charged with raw energy and emotion - a performing style that is unprecedented in the Chicago area. This technique is in high demand because of the unique blend between modern dance forms interspersed with martial art skills, combative arts and other techniques acquired to develop the Extreme Release Technique aka - The Bodyslam Technique.
