Breakbone DanceCo's sold out 2002 & 2003 performance series "...blends video,
choreography, drama, surreal imagery and rock music and says something important
while doing so." (Chicago Tribune) Logotype v2.1 explores and exploits the visual world in which
we live.
The evening-length Logotype is comprised of seven sections created between
1998-02. In each, a simple logo is brought to life including video shot by Atalee Judy & Filmmaker Carl Wiedemann; original soundscores (remixing industrial music artists such as Tool, Einstürzende Neubauten, Claypeople, RevCo, Thievry Corporation, Young Gods and blended with Judy's own vocals); and Breakbone's fierce, visceral bodyslams. From issues of mental illness to
conformity and women's roles, Logotype v2.1 is shown to the extreme raising the question: As we reduce our lives to symbols and sound bites, what happens to our humanity?
Logotype v2.1 is:
Logotype 04- Sexy Teddy Bear Burlesque - A sole woman surrounded by comforting teddy bears slams her avenging broken heart; cartoonish and gut-wrenching… the logotype- a broken heart,
Logotype 00- A gunshot victim, dying over and over again in a repeated nightmare, tries to hold onto life… the logotype- a gun,
Logotype 01- Inside the closed doors of mental illness is "like watching two nightmare figures swim up from the deep to deliver a message we'd rather not
hear." (Chi-Reader)the logotype- a static,
Logotype 02- A society of nine identified and identifiable hurtling
bodies, "… the movement is sharply defined and rigorously executed."(Chicago Reader
)… the logotype- a barcode,
Logotype 03- A powerful woman with a penetrating aura and androgynous
form grapples with the female as an object, "fearlessly inventive" (Chicago Tribune)… the logotype- a woman,
Logotype 05- The hover side of bodyslam, as Breakbone's nine angels/women
fall from grace… the logotype- a cross,
Logotype 06- Between God and technology, the human body is more than just
hardware… the logotype- a circuit. ###
