Dance Exile

Dance Exile
Exile is a form of struggle - social, political or personal. It means to be away from one's home while either being explicitly refused acceptance. The use of exterior forced exile can sometimes be useful for the abusers of power because it prevents the exilee from organizing or from becoming a martyr for their cause. Historically, a martyr is a person who dies for their convictions or faith. The term has since been used metaphorically for people in a struggle for some cause, or those whose serve to galvanize a particular movement.

Dance Exile Dance Exile is a reactionary art form that utilizes any medium possible to enable the artistic voice to be heard loud and clear. We are in exile of dance because we are not accepted to the stereotypes or aesthetic of formalized dance. While not necessarily a punishment by definition, we take pride in our conviction to the artistic voice, be it dance, singing, acting, painting, filmmaking, multimedia, fashion, etc, that inspires an honest exploration of movement and a form that challenges social norms.
